What are Snapshots?

Snapshots retrieve the components that have changed in your source organization. If a developer has been working on a feature for the last two weeks and s/he wants to identify the changes that have been made over that period, Snapshots are the optimal way to retrieve changes from the source org.

When retrieving the changes, you MUST specify:
  • Number of days: Flosum investigates all the changes made to the source organization within a specified date range and stores those metadata definitions within Flosum.
  • Types of Metadata Components: It is very important to specify which type(s) of metadata components you would like to pull in order to maximize retrieval speed. In order to pull multiple component types, you can use a comma to separate them. The comma between multiple values in a row acts as an OR condition.

Furthermore, If you know the prefix of the component name, the retrieval will be even faster. See screenshot below:

Please see this Best Practices for Snapshot Retrieval article for more information and tips regarding snapshot retrieval.
Now, You Try It!

Make Changes in Your Source Organization

  1. Log in to your first source organization.
  2. In order to see the power of the merge conflict tool, we'll have you select two existing components within your source organization - ideally an Apex Class and Custom Object and make some changes (see details below):
    • Apex Class Component:
      • Add a new line of code (for example, "//test" )
      • Modify an existing line
      • Delete an existing line
    • Custom Object Component:
      • Change the description of the custom object
      • Add new field
      • Delete existing field

Create A Snapshot

  1. Log into the Flosum organization and go to the "Orgs" Tab
  2. Select the Source Organization
  3. Click on "Create Snapshots"
  4. Name your Snapshot. For this trial purpose you can use the name "Feature 1"
  5. Specify Retrieve Changes to in last 14 days
  6. Next, we'll Under "Field" select "Component Type"
  7. In the "Value" field, use the spyglass to select "Apex Page and Custom Object" from the picklist and then push the "Insert Selected" button at the top right of the pop-up
  8. Click "Create Snapshot" at the top right of the screen
  9. This may take a couple of minutes. Do not close browser tab or the retrieval may stop. The screen will re-direct. Refresh the screen until the "Is Completed?" field is check-marked to indicate that the snapshot has completed.

Result: Flosum will retrieve the changes that have been completed in the source organization in the last 14 days.

Make Changes in your Second Source Organization

  1. Log into your Second Source Organization
  2. Repeat the modifications in the step listed above, making another set of changes to the same components in the second source organization. This will create a conflict between the components for Flosum to detect.

Create a Second Snapshot

  1. Follow the steps 1-10 to create another snapshot of the changes you just made in your second source organization. Name this Snapshot "Feature 2"

Nice Job!! You're half-way done with the trial!!
